Writings

I like writing short stories. They have always been my passion. Novels are great for reading, but nothing gets the soul out like the perfect moment explained in a few paragraphs or chapters.

Hot off the press:
Clementine, a story of two people who have the sudden opportunity for freedom. What can you expect? It was a beautiful day. The name comes from the Decemberists’ Clementine, from their album titled Castaways and Cutouts, though the story itself is inspired by many songs and albums, including Death Cab’s album We Have the Facts and We’re Voting Yes, the American Analog Set’s song Aaron & Maria, Iron & Wine’s cover of Such Great Heights, and a concert of The Shins in San Francisco. All else was inspired by my trip to CA last April. Which is a pretty long set of inspirations for one short story.

More stories:
Some Way to Greet the Year, the re-telling of one New Year’s Eve in San Francisco that happened in a haze. Inspired by the song Grace Cathedral Hill by the Decemberists, from their album Castaways and Cutouts.
Grace Cathedral. For three days, I was in San Francisco. And in those three days, I created an entire life there, complete with nostalgic bliss.
The Bus Stop, a short story about two down-and-out youths in Oregon. It was also inspired by a Decemberists song, The Bus Mall, off their album Picaresque.
Do You Remember, an addition into the life of the characters of The Bus Stop.

Poetry:
Our Endless Numbered Days, from a promt in writing club one day that told me, “buttons out of my bones.” It was also aided a great deal by images from Iron & Wine’s Passing Afternoon, from his album Our Endless Numbered Days.
